Beautiful, comfortable hotel in an excellent location. The rooms are very spacious, although somewhat lacking in natural light. But really nice and clean.Unfortunately, despite these positives, I would not stay here again. After a warm welcome at check-in, the service at reception felt noticeably less attentive, and we often felt that our questions were an inconvenience.Additionally, no assistance was offered with our luggage at check-out. Overall, the level of service did not meet expectations.
My staycation was truly a great experience, and a huge part of that was because of Kendric. He genuinely goes above and beyond for every guest. From check-in to check-out, he was professional, attentive, and incredibly welcoming. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. He made sure I had everything I needed, answered all my questions with patience, and handled everything with such a positive attitude. What stood out most is how personable and kind he is. He doesn’t just “do his job”, he makes you feel valued and appreciated as a guest. That level of hospitality makes all the difference. It’s rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a warm, friendly personality. The rooms at the hotel were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is also in a prime location with Stardust Diner, Applebee’s, McDonald’s, and a deli nearby, which made it super convenient whenever I wanted to grab something to eat. Because of Kendric and the overall experience, I will definitely be coming back. Exceptional service like that deserves to be recognized!
We had a lovely stay at Michelangelo Hotel and all of the staff were very welcoming snd helpful. Unfortunately, we had to leaave early due to winter weather in SC. The hotel manager happily reimbursed us for the night we missed. We were so grateful! I highly reccommend this hotel snd hope to return soon!
Second time staying at Michelangelo this past weekend, and it was another great stay. Hotel is in a great location; walking distance to theaters, Broadway, Radio City, Rockefeller Plaza, restaurants, Times Square, subway, etc. The facilities are in really good shape, and the rooms are spacious and clean. They have great black-out shades in the room to buffer street lights and noise. It's definitely become one of our favorite accommodations in NYC. We'll definitely be back!
The doorman was excellent — genuinely friendly, professional, and by far the highlight of the stay. He truly deserves recognition for his service.Unfortunately, the rest of the experience did not live up to the same standard. The overall staff felt quite disengaged, and the bar has very unusual opening hours — it wasn’t even possible to get a coffee during the day.A major issue was the lack of transparency regarding additional fees. Several extra charges were added on top of the room rate, without being clearly communicated in advance. At checkout, we were unexpectedly charged an additional $102, despite having already paying a $500 deposit. When I asked about the $45 daily residential fee, the staff simply referred to it as being included somewhere in the disclaimer. In my view, this is not transparent or fair, and it gives the impression that fees are intentionally hidden rather than clearly disclosed.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values honesty and clarity in pricing. Once again, the doorman was outstanding and deserves a raise.
The least expensive luxury hotel in town. Most luxury hotels are $300-$500 more per night. And what is special about the Michelangelo is the size of the rooms. HUGE compared to the tiny boxes other hotels are offering these days. The staff is extremely friendly and it has a great, non-snobby but elegant feel. The only downside is you don't get designer hand lotion and toothpaste or fancy furniture. Worth it!
We had an overall pleasant stay at the hotel during our city trip. The staff at the reception were extremely helpful and friendly, and the doorman and bellhop were cheerful and always ready to assist with any questions. The rooms themselves were adequate, slightly dated, but clean. The hotel offers a range of useful amenities, including a gym, hairdryers, and bathrobes. However, there are some notable drawbacks. The hotel is very poorly insulated, and street noise can be heard clearly in the rooms, almost as if the windows were open. We strongly recommend bringing earplugs for a restful night’s sleep.A significant concern for us was the service at the bar, specifically from one staff member, Shawn A. Unfortunately, we found his behavior to be extremely unprofessional. He was consistently unfriendly, barely acknowledged us, and took our order with obvious reluctance. As a result, we chose not to leave a tip. Shawn responded by making a sarcastic remark about this to another guest in our presence. This behavior is in our opinion unacceptable and does not reflect the professional standards one would expect at a hotel of this caliber. While we understand that everyone can have an off day, we encourage management to address this issue to ensure all guests feel welcome and respected.
This is a very old, stately hotel, and while I admire its original charm, some features no longer make sense for today’s traveler. For example, the bar area had no sink, microwave, trash can, or serving trays, and the refrigerator had no freezer. The carpet was visibly stained with red marks, and the wooden furniture—though beautiful—could use some TLC, as there were noticeable dings throughout. On the positive side, the staff and customer service were impeccable—truly outstanding. The room and the hotel overall were also extremely clean. And the drinks were so so good. It's really a cool stay, just deserves some TLC to ensure its integrity.
We stayed a week in this hotel during the Thanksgiving week. What we liked:- Great Location (Times Square is very close)- Spacious room- Big and comfortable bed- Kind staff at reception and housekeepingWhat we didn't like:- Rest of the staff do not look like that they are happy to work at the hotel or want any guests since they never smile. One of the portier and one bartender (her name starts with C..) were without any reason very rude to us and this makes the whole stay disappointing.- Hotel is a bit dated- Price was too high for value we got
I had a great stay at the Michelangelo. I was there for four days for work. The rooms are a little tired and could use a refresh, but that is not uncommon in manhattan hotels. Despite this I enjoyed my stay because they got a lot of the important things right. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. My room was huge, which is very uncommon in NYC. The shower had good pressure and was hot. The hotel was very quiet. Double windows were installed so the outside noise didn’t come in at all. The room was very clean. Most important was the staff. It is a very welcoming hotel where the people who work there are kind, helpful and fun to talk with. Lastly, the location is superb. I was had meeting all over the City and found this to be a highly accessible location. I mostly used the subway for which there are a few lines within a block of the hotel.
Beautiful hotel. The room, a suite, was spacious! My wife and I had an absolutely delightful stay as so much was near and within walking distance. We'll gladly stay here again!
This was my first time staying at this hotel. The location is very convenient if you are attending shows and want to shop. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. They held our bags until the room was ready. Once we returned our room was ready and check in was fast and easy. The rooms are very spacious and clean! I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again!
The service at this hotel was hands down the best I've ever had in NY or anywhere. They treat each person with kindness and go above and beyond. They treat you like family. I will never stay in any hotel other than this one in NY. Please give it a try. Genuine kindness goes a long way and this hotel has locked that down. From the moment you enter their doors they treat you like you are the most important person in town. This place is a true gem.
The Michelangelo Hotel has a perfect location—central to all the major attractions. The rooms were spacious, and the staff was friendly and helpful. David was wonderful and made our stay even better. As two women traveling alone, we felt completely safe and will definitely be returning on our next trip!
My ONLY reservation in promoting this wonderful hotel is that I don't want it to fill up before my next visit! Old world charm, all the up-to-date amenities, and above all, service like you can scarcely find anywhere anymore. This place is above and beyond beautiful and gracious. Extremely well-located ... every important feature in a top-drawer hotel.
Like everyone else said, the rooms are outdated but I think that's what adds to the charm. I got an upgrade to a higher floor (I was staying there for my birthday). The staff was very kind to me. I live in the city so it was a bit of a staycation for me, so I can't speak to the concierge service. I slept like a BABY in that bed. It felt like being at someone's grandmother's house, but in the best way possible!!
We got an early last Monday and unlike the last review, Michele who was upgraded to a grand suite, we were greeted rudely by the tall white Concierge at 8:30 AM on October 6th 2025.We had emailed and said we would be on a redeye and kindly requested an early check-in. When we got to the front desk, a very rude and abrupt man just asked her last name, when said we had requested the early check-in which he just ignored and told us that they did not have any rooms available. We made the best of it, walked over to Central Park and waited for a room, which he said they would call us when it becomes available. We walked back a few hours later, exhausted, only to find out that there was a room available, he never called. The room (727) that he put us into was a dark, interior room with zero light, smelled like mildew and had stains all over the carpet. My husband walked back to the concierge and they moved us to one floor down same room, (627) same floor plan except this one had feces dripping off the toilet bowl and the bathroom floor was very sticky and disgusting. It was definitely not ready for a human being to reside in.My husband then went back and finally spoke to someone else. This manager was David. He seemed empathetic and told us to pack our stuff tomorrow just in case a room became available bc there was nothing he could do on Monday night. We had to stay the night in the poop filled room. The way that we were treated was just unforgivable.David did manage to move us to a better room later on Tuesday for which we were grateful. That should have been our initial impression of this hotel. When you look at the other reviews of people who are put in those dark interior rooms, they are not of white descent. The Concierge that we met up upon our arrival was a racist human being. The fact that he did that to us and was allowed to makes me sad for the rest of the good people who works at this hotel. That said the rooms are still older and tired, we could not see out of the windows because of the dirt and grime, the fan in the bathroom did not work. They need to upgrade. Though I’m sure there are nicer rooms that have been upgraded to give to people like Michele when they check in early.David V and June made the rest stay enjoyable. So did Theodore at the front. He was always smiling and willing to help us with anything.David, I hope you get the recognition you deserve for turning the situation around.
I was tired and got in a bit early so was upgraded to a grand suite. How kind and lovely after a long travel day! Front desk staff were incredibly accommodating. Everyone was friendly. The room was clean and spacious. Would definitely stay there again!
Good hotel; rooms are dated but hotel was built in 1925, after all. The plugs (at least in our room) were all loose. You plug something in and it wants to fall out immediately. Location is great! Few blocks from Times Square, 5th Ave, Central Park.
Great location. Rooms were fine, but details like electrical outlets that were so worn they didn't keep the plugs from falling out of the socket. Bellhop service was erratic with multiple folks to tip just to get bags to the room. Overall mediocre for the price.
Fantastic location, near multiple subway stops within a couple blocks. The hotel itself is clean and shockingly quiet for being in midtown near the hustle and bustle. Beds are comfortable and room was a good size, large for NYC standards. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast options. I will stay here again for sure.
Great experience. Rooms were huge for NY. 2 king size beds - large bathroom. Staff were fantastic and location great. Couldn't have asked for a better hotel
I made a reservation and stayed in this hotel recently. I wanted to express my thanks to the incredible staff...right across the board. From check in to check out, this place did not disappoint. I believe the woman who checked me in was Milagros, but I am not certain. She was smart and professional, and the bellhop quickly got my brother and I to our respective rooms. The rooms were fantastic! We both loved the classic decor, flooring, bathrooms were amazing, the closet was great, and I had an iron, something I sometimes have to request and was concerned about before we left. We requested refrigerators, which literally were there within minutes. I was surprised at the high level of service, which is rare today. I want to mention the names of some of the people I can remember, and will try to edit the names of those I forgot. Edwardo or Theodoro, Shawn and Lulo, at the bar. John, the night manager. Outstanding people. The maintenance staff helped me with an issue. The housekeeping staff was so nice and helped me in the mornings when I wanted to grab some ice. The concierge was amazing. Just everything. As I remember further details I will edit this review. I just wanted to thank everyone for making this visit special and I hope that nothing changes here. I am not someone who enjoys the cold modern stuff. The warmth of the decor and staff was a pleasant surprise. Thank you to all. Edit 10/30/25: I am reading the other reviews that were negative and I am shocked. One person wanted to check in at 8:30 in the morning. I do not know the age group, but for pete's sake - No one in their right mind would expect any hotel to be ready at the busiest time of the day, as people are checking out. I am laughing extremely hard at some of these spoiled and entitled people -- as for the bathroom, I just told a friend of mine who came to the US from Ukraine, and has never been to NYC. I told her about this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. If people think everything is problem free they need to honestly, wake up and get some life experience.
This is a great, well maintained, older hotel. The rooms are huge, more than twice the size of what you get at a new, trendy hotel at the same price point. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is convenient, easy walks to the theater district or Central Park. Recommended
Check-in was smooth and the staff was friendly, but my room felt like a dungeon. It was tucked away in a side section with a window that opened to an enclosed industrial area, completely surrounded by buildings. As a result, the room was dark and stuffy at all hours—far from the vibrant New York experience I had envisioned. When I asked to switch rooms, I was told the hotel was fully booked, though that didn’t seem consistent with the foot traffic I saw or the availability still showing on multiple travel sites.
We really loved our experience at this hotel. The entire place is very clean and classy - a really lovely place to come back to at the end of a long and tiring day of touring the city! This may also be the most welcoming staff I have ever encountered at any hotel. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind. Just the sweetest! I even asked at the front desk one night if I could remove some of the minibar items so that I could put leftovers in there and they stepped it up even further - they brought me a mini fridge to keep in our room for the rest of our stay. Thank you Aldi!! I noted only 4 stars for the room because I think the carpet and drapery could stand to be replaced. They are definitely clean, just looking pretty tired. Overall, I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. It's a great location, staff can't be beat, and you'll sleep in a clean and comfy bed at the end of your busy day!
This hotel is FANTASTIC! Truly a rare find in the busy Manhattan especially in this location. Stayed here for business for 3 nights and couldn't have been happier with the staff, sparkling clean and large rooms , great services . Will definitely come back again !
Oh my goodness these guys are the best! Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Location is easy walking distance to both Times Square and Central Park.Booked a "Junior suite" which was competitive with regular-size rooms in Times Square area. The room was huge - our NYC friends couldn't believe it. (We've stayed in rooms near Times Square before where you could touch all 4 walls from one spot!)The doorman was super friendly always asking about our day and plans.Check-in was easy and friendly. Breakfast in the lobby was not too expensive, very good, and the talkative waiters were super friendly. The elevators were super quick - a common complaint in many area hotels was "slow elevators," but not these ones...ever.After we left, we realized our passports were in the room safe. Oh no! Hamidi the manager was so reassuring, carefully packing them in an envelope and sealing and signing the envelope, and delivering them personally to the Uber driver. This was above and beyond, and great service. And we made our flight on time.
It is a four star hotel but doesn't seem like it.We stayed there one night but the AC didn't work properly. It was very warm in the room and we were not able to sleep properly. The bathroom tub drain was also not working properly and it felt like we were taking the shower in a puddle. The room we received was spacious but a little outdated.
Disappointing Experience – Hidden Fees and Outdated FacilitiesI was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Upon check-out, I was informed that I owed an additional $45 per night in “residence fees” — a charge that was never clearly disclosed at the time of booking. I had already paid all taxes and fees upfront, so being surprised with this extra cost felt dishonest and misleading. In my opinion, this practice is deceptive and borders on a scam. The hotel itself is quite old. The carpets throughout the property have a noticeable unpleasant odor, which made the environment feel less than clean and welcoming. The only positive aspect of my stay was the location, which is indeed convenient. While the staff were generally polite, it was clear that they do not volunteer information about these extra charges unless directly asked — which only adds to the sense that transparency is not a priority here.I would not recommend this hotel, and I suggest future guests ask detailed questions about all potential charges before booking.
The afternoon of the check in ,on Thursday July 3rd the Reception felt unwelcoming - first impressions are important . The same woman ( June I was told) when asked for bedroom slippers said the Hotel had stopped providing those. These were readily obtained later from a different staff member .The Concierge on Saturday July 5th declined to print a single sheet saying that this was not a booking done through them ( the previous day a different Concierge from the same outside agency had been helpful with his advice). On one of the afternoons one of the Housekeeping women gave a decidedly odd look when asked to enter the room to clean the room while I stayed in the room for a few moments to finish what I was doing . The breakfast is quite perfunctory worth in a Hotel that calls itself 4 star. On the positive side the lobby is large and welcoming , the doormen were both helpful , a maintenance man that was sent up to fix many things was creatively helpful. The location is good
The Michelangelo exceeded our expectations! From the moment we walked up to the hotel to the moment we left, all the staff members were so attentive and helpful. The room had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and it was quiet. We received a nice surprise of a room upgrade upon check in as well which made our day. Would highly recommend staying here and we look forward to our next visit!
I spend 100+ days a year working in NY. This hotel has very rude staff except for Henry. He was amazing. No room service 3 out of 4 days there. "No one is showing up for work, so we can't serve you. Go to lobby resturant." Housekeeping very rude. Front desk girl was very rude. Doormen are great also. Hotel is musty and old. Not worth the price they are charging. Too many time square hotels much nicer for same or less money.
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was just outstanding- friendly, efficient, polite, and helpful. Bell captain Henry deserves special mention as he did everything he could to make our stay wonderful, which it was. Restaurant staff was terrific. The hotel obviously trains, and takes pride in, its staff. The hotel couldn't be in a better location. Just a few blocks from theaters, restaurants etc,
What a lovely place! I would definitely come back to stay at The Michelangelo. It's got an old-school Italian-style charm, with all the modern amenities you'd hope for.Service: Excellent! From the front desk to the porters to the doormen, everyone was kind and helpful. I look forward to seeing Teodoro again on a future visit.Rooms: Some of the best I've ever stayed in! When you book a "studio," you don't expect much. But there was a generous amount of space in our studio room. The large closet has plenty of room for hanging all your best items. The foyer area has plenty of space to toss shoes, spread out your daily items, and ditch wet umbrellas. The king bed is super comfortable. And there is a full sitting area, with room for at least two - no single, lonely hotel chair here! The bathroom has enough counter space for spreading out toiletries for two (even if you travel heavy), and a bath and toilet room with a separate door from the sink. By the way, the tub is big enough that you *can* take a nice bath, if you wish! Lastly, the air conditioning worked quite well - I was there on a few of the first hot days of the year, and it was a relief to come back to a room that I could cool right to the temperature I wanted, with the fan speed I wanted - which was high, to act as a noise machine to drown out the city, though I should add that the room was pretty well soundproofed. Despite the occasional car horn still sounding through, I thought that the room really was impressively quiet overall, given The Michelangelo is at the busy corner of W 51st and 7th Ave.Ambiance: The foyer and mezzanine are charming and well-maintained. A couple of times, we found ourselves with food to-go that we opted to bring back to the hotel lobby to enjoy. The mezzanine level has rooms for events, but when not booked, go check out the aesthetically-pleasing round window that overlooks the street.Overall, I am really impressed. I was visiting New York for the first time in many years, and when I found The Michelangelo in a sea of hotels with mediocre reviews, I was skeptical, but hopeful. My skepticism was for naught, and The Michelangelo would be my first choice in the future. Thank you!
My daughter & I had an exceptional stay at the Michelangelo Hotel in NYC, where the manager went above and beyond to accommodate our needs when her Julliard audition was switched to zoom during covid. The spacious, elegant rooms provided a comfortable retreat, while the attentive and patient staff ensured a seamless experience. Perfectly located near Times Square, this neoclassical gem offered both convenience and tranquility, making it a standout choice we highly recommend for a memorable NYC stay.
Amazingly large hotel with luxury finishes that are making it my new favorite place to stay in the city. My criteria includes things like room size (HUGE!), bathrobes & slippers (SO SOFT!), a vanity station (THE DREAM), and a separate room in the bathroom for the toilet and ginormous bathtub. Plus apparently Paul Hogan of Crocodile Dundee fame liked to stay here. NO NOTES.
Second time staying here & love the perfect location near Time Square & theaters.Specially loved Daniel the concierge! He was super friendly, knowledgeable & attentive to our needs. Went out of his way to find us the best seats for Book of Mormon & Death Becomes Her. This service was not offered during our first stay & we truly enjoyed Daniel’s hospitality & professionalism! Daniel’s suggestion to do a private tour of Empire State Building was truly a highlight of our trip!Henry & Teodoro were also very nice & attentive to our needs.Overall a great experience & highly recommended this place!
loved our stay here. the ambiance was perfect for new york tourists like us 🙂 decent price compared to other nearby hotels. staff was perfect.
Really wonderful stay. Great location. Old fashion NYC charm. Quiet, specious rooms, and really great food downstairs. We will definitely be back!!! This is the NYC hospitality I remember from my childhood. I can’t recommend the staff highly enough. Henry had us all laughing and feeling like family by the end of the trip.
The rooms are huge (especially in NY standards), very well cleaned and with amazing sound isolation. The staff is friendly and willing to help. The only thing missing for a full 5 star rating here is some maintenance to update the style and improve tired carpets and painting.
Michaelangelo is one of my go-to hotels in midtown. For business or pleasure, it is an excellent location.Although the hotel and its features are just a little tired, the staff is very warm and friendly and the rooms are very nice with plenty of space. I recommend upgrading, since it is typically a small price and the rooms become very nice sized.
Exceptionally kind service (shoutout to Angelo), incredibly spacious for NYC (stayed in an Executive King), and excellent and safe location. The rooms are showing their age, but everything was clean and the bed very comfortable. Detracting stars purely because of the noise level. The AC/heating unit is large and rumbly like many in the city (comparable to a louder window A/C), but there was some kind of clanking/rapping coming from mine that kept me up all night. I’m used to city traffic and such, so I’m not a particularly light sleeper. Pack earplugs, just to be on the safe side, and you’ll be golden.
Beautiful hotel with a delightful staff. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. There was quick follow up on a question regarding our billing, and the team at the hotel went out of their way to get a thorough answer to our question. I can't recommend this hotel enough!
The location, staff, and cleanliness of the hotel were exceptional. I requested a Keurig coffee maker, and they made sure it was sent up right away.I would stay here again and recommend to others.
My friend and I visited NYC to see a Broadway show and the Michelangelo’s location is perfect for this; most theaters are within a few short blocks. The room was spotless with a comfortable bed and upscale bedding. The entire staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating and added immeasurably to our stay. We also enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the dining area. The Michelangelo will be our go-to hotel for future visits to the city.
Hotel is in a little need of renovation but that said this was as outstanding of a hotel visit as we have ever experienced (we are experienced international travelers). The room was comfortable and very quiet being on the inside. Room service for b'fast was good and on time. The bath tub much appreciated. We will return.
We are currently staying at the hotel, it’s our first time. Comfortable amenities, good size room and close to everything. Can recommend
Went to NYC for work and had this hotel booked for me. Location is superb, very clean and very nice staff!
I began staying at the Michelangelo many years ago when I took my granddaughter here and have been coming back to New York every six months since. I would never stay any place else. The service is impeccable, the hotel is charming and lovely. The rooms are lovely, The beds are very very comfortable and the location is perfect.
The staff at The Michelangelo New York goes above and beyond for their guests. I highly recommend this hotel for your visit to New York City. Housekeeping does a fantastic job. The front desk personal are experienced professionals and were very attentive to all of our personal and business needs. All employees were great! From helping with luggage to arranging cabs. Also, the food in the restaurant rivals most local dining spots. Our company will be frequenting this hotel for all of our future events/meetings.Great job Michelangelo!
The hotel itself was very beautiful with kind helpful staff. The rooms were nice quality for beds, linens, bathroom accommodations, and large bathtub. The best part was the location. This hotel was perfectly located for everything we did on our trip.
Love this hotel! Historic charm with the BEST staff. Everyone was incredibly accomodating. Our room was quiet and spacious. Loved the bathrooms too! Lots of counter space, mirror and lighting. Will stay here from now on.
I came here for a girls trip and we loved our experience at the Michelangelo! Large rooms, super clean, staff was very attentive the entire stay, and food was excellent. As someone who loves a luxury experience, the Michelangelo was a perfect combination of luxury and value, and you cannot beat the location. We will definitely be back!
